What’s the difference between Hypnotherapy and Stage Hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy used to create subconscious change in a client in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours or feelings. These changes are long-term changes to the individual’s health and well-being.
Stage hypnosis is performed for entertainment purposes. Stage hypnosis shows are performed at comedy clubs, theaters, festivals, and fairs. The causes of behaviour exhibited by volunteers in stage hypnosis shows is an area of dispute. Some claim it illustrates altered states of consciousness (i.e., “hypnotic trance”). Others maintain that it can be explained by a combination of psychological factors observed in group settings such as disorientation, compliance, peer pressure, and ordinary suggestion.
A modern stage hypnosis performance typically delivers a comedic show rather than simply a demonstration to impress an audience with powers of persuasion. Stage hypnotists cannot change an individual’s attitudes and behaviours long term.
How many sessions will I need?
You will be pleased to learn that here at Amani Hypnotherapy, usually 6 -12 sessions will be required to help with everything from anxiety to depression, work stress, to family issues, fertility, self esteem, and everything in between.
Each session is around 50 minutes long with the exceptions noted in each category.
Phobias tend to take 3 sessions and once again each session is around 50 minutes long.
Finally, Smoking is an initial hour and a half session followed by two 45 minute relaxation sessions.
How often will I see my hypnotherapist?
Ideally, you will be seeing me once a week for the duration of the treatment.
Occasionally something may get in the way of this happening and missing a week is acceptable as long as we reschedule the session for as close to the missed session time as possible. If this is not possible we can proceed the following week.
We will see each other every week for at least the first 8-10 sessions. As you feel your improvement, we can change the sessions to being every 2 weeks and may then also go to once a month for the last session or two depending on the duration of the treatment.
How can I expect to feel?
The experience of hypnosis is unique to the person experiencing it and allows the client to enter into a calm, physically and mentally relaxed state.
